INTRODUCTION
Ditty Bop is an interactive music game built around a single rule: no words allowed. Players hear a song cue, then whistle, hum, or beat-box it for others to guess. I led the product’s UI design, logo, brand identity, and development team, shaping the app as a fully realized, character-driven entertainment experience.

STRATEGY
We designed Ditty Bop as a social, audio-first game built on recognition, performance, and fast interaction. By eliminating lyrics, the gameplay became more universal while placing greater emphasis on recall, timing, and player expression. To support that mechanic, I developed a cohesive brand language and helped create six original characters, each with distinct personality, motion behavior, and visual presence, alongside custom prize illustrations and original intro music.

The app combined structured song selection, rights-managed song snippet playback, and a recording loop that let users perform through humming, whistling, or beat-boxing for opponent guesswork. Key technical challenges included storing user recordings, caching gameplay and audio assets for responsiveness, and syncing character animation to recorded audio by mapping signal highs and lows to specific dance behaviors in real time.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
These characters were inspired by some of music’s biggest names, past and present, with each one crafted to feel instantly recognizable yet entirely original. From early concepts and sketches to ink, animation, accessories, and signature dance moves, every stage of development was carefully refined to bring each character to life with a distinct personality and style.
